Today, Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa officially opened the first-ever World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Forum for Ministers Responsible for Sport in Oceania, hosted in Samoa. Addressing leaders and experts in sports integrity, Prime Minister Fiame emphasized the importance of collaboration to ensure fairness and uphold the core values of sports across the Pacific.
In her welcoming speech, Prime Minister Fiame greeted WADA President Witold Bańka, Director General Olivier Niggli, and distinguished guests, highlighting Samoa’s commitment to combating doping in sports. “This gathering in Samoa is a testament to the power of collaboration,” she noted. “Together, we can strengthen our regional anti-doping initiatives, support the Clean Sport Movement, and foster transparency and accountability.”
Held at Samoa’s traditional open Fale, the event symbolised inclusivity and unity, inviting participants to share their insights and aspirations. Prime Minister Fiame referenced the Samoan proverb, “A malu i fale, e malu fo’i i fafo,” meaning “Safety at home ensures safety outside.” She explained that by fostering safe and supportive communities, these values could extend to the broader sports community.
Prime Minister Fiame expressed confidence that the forum’s discussions would inspire actionable steps and lasting partnerships, creating a future where Pacific sports continue to inspire and uphold the spirit of fair play.
