SUNGO elects new leadership at annual general meeting

Ti’afau Fale Millenia Hotel, Sogi, APIA – The Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organisations (SUNGO) proudly hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, drawing an impressive turnout from its members. The event, held in Apia, saw participation from numerous SUNGO members, with notable representation from Civil Society Organizations, including one dedicated representative from Savaii.

The AGM proceeded smoothly, adhering closely to a well-structured agenda, which included comprehensive discussions on key issues affecting the organization. Attendees actively engaged in meaningful dialogue, ensuring all agenda items were thoroughly addressed.

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the election of new leadership for the upcoming term. SUNGO members re-elected Lavea Peseta Lua Nafoi from the Tulaele CCCS Youth as the National President. Lealailepule Muliagaetele Nonumaiuli Wayne Petaia of the Alii & Faipule Vaitele Tai was elected as Treasurer, while Ms. Funemalafai Ono Fuatai from the Samoa Institute of Directors was elected as Secretary for the Executive Council for the 2025–2027 term.

Additionally, seven new members were welcomed to the Executive Council for 2025–2026. They are:

  • Mr. Tofilau Raymond Voigt from the Beekeepers Association of Samoa,
  • Ms. Mary Collins from the Samoa Social Welfare Fesoasoani Trust,
  • Ms. Vui Tolo Pereira from the ADRA Samoa,
  • Ms. Kika Hosea of the Aiga Atiae’ Vailoa,
  • Mr. Leatinu’u Sylvester Hagedorn from the Komiti Poloketi Vailoa Faleata,
  • Ms. Vaosefa Mariota from the Tofamamao Association of Counsellors, and
  • Ms. Amituanai Dr. Cecilia Alailima from the Independent Water Scheme Association.

During the meeting, a Civil Society Organization Representative was also elected to represent the CSOs in the Civil Society Support Programmes’ Steering Committee. This position was awarded to Leausaialo Leilani Duffy Iosefa from the Conservation International Samoa.

SUNGO extends its heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their active participation and continued commitment to the organization’s mission. The successful AGM marks a significant step forward in collective efforts to strengthen the civil society sector in Samoa.
