As of 10 January 2025, Los Angeles is grappling with catastrophic wildfires that have led to significant loss of life and property. The two largest blazes, known as the Palisades and Eaton fires, remain completely uncontained.

At least five fatalities have been reported, all linked to the Eaton fire. Authorities caution that the death toll may rise as search efforts continue. Approximately 180,000 residents are under evacuation orders, with thousands of homes and structures destroyed.

The Palisades fire has devastated seaside neighborhoods between Malibu and Santa Monica, while the Eaton fire has impacted regions around Pasadena and Altadena. Notably, the Palisades fire is now considered one of the most destructive natural disasters in Los Angeles history.

Several landmarks and celebrity residences have been destroyed. Actors such as Billy Crystal and Paris Hilton have reported the loss of their homes.

Firefighters are making progress in certain areas, with evacuation orders lifted in the Hollywood Hills. However, strong winds and dry conditions continue to challenge containment efforts. Additionally, there have been reports of looting in evacuated neighborhoods, leading to multiple arrests.

President Joe Biden has declared a major disaster in the region, mobilizing federal resources to support state and local response efforts. The situation remains dire, with authorities urging residents to adhere to evacuation orders and stay informed through official channels.
