In a ceremony at Vailima this morning, four new Cabinet Ministers were sworn into office, following the recent dismissal of their predecessors by Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa.

Mau’u Si’aosi Pu’epu’emai has assumed the role of Minister of Communication, Information, and Technology, replacing Toelupe Poumulinuku Onesemo. Ni’u’ava Eti Malolo is now the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, succeeding La’auli Leuatea Polataivao. Faletoi Timaea Tafua has been appointed as the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Labour, taking over from Leota Laki Lamositele. Lagi’aia Tiatia’au Tufuga has become the Minister of Women, Community, and Social Development, following the dismissal of Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molioo.

The dismissals were prompted by various issues, including allegations of misconduct and internal disputes within the FAST Party. La’auli Leuatea Polataivao faced multiple criminal charges, leading to his termination on 10 January 2025. The other three ministers were dismissed on 14 January 2025 amid internal party disputes.

According to Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa,

As Prime Minister, I had hoped that the former Minister would choose to resign. This is a common stance often considered and taken by esteemed public office custodians if allegations or charges are laid against them.

During the swearing-in ceremony, attended by government officials, family members, and dignitaries, each minister pledged their commitment to their new roles under the guidance of Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa.
