A fire destroyed a family home in Nuu early this morning.
According to a relative, Sina Masoe, the fire may have been caused by candles used during a power outage.
“That is my brother’s property. He, his wife, and their two kids stay in that house. When the power went out tonight, candles were used before they left for shopping. Just before we went to bed, my husband noticed the problem and called the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services,” Masoe said.
Fire crews arrived quickly and prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby house where Masoe and other family members live. The fire destroyed a freezer, furniture, and tools used for mechanical work.
No injuries have been reported.
