The Electric Power Corporation (EPC) has issued a statement addressing the recent power outages that have affected Samoa, particularly during peak hours from 6 AM to 11 AM and 6 PM to 11 PM. EPC has outlined the causes of the disruptions and the steps being taken to restore reliable service to all customers.

EPC acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outages and apologised to the public. “We understand the frustration these disruptions have caused, particularly during peak hours, and we deeply appreciate the patience and support shown by the public as we work tirelessly to resolve these issues,” the statement read.

The corporation identified two primary factors contributing to the outages: technical issues with the Fiaga generators and a faulty underground transmission line. The Fiaga generators, which play a critical role in meeting peak electricity demand, have encountered technical problems. EPC teams are conducting urgent maintenance to restore their full capacity and ensure a stable power supply in both the short and long term.

The faulty underground transmission line has also impacted the distribution of electricity. To address this, EPC is constructing a redundancy line to provide an alternative pathway for power transmission, minimising the risk of future disruptions.

EPC emphasised the essential role of electricity in everyday life, from powering homes and businesses to supporting vital services. The corporation expressed its full commitment to delivering reliable and uninterrupted power to all customers. EPC teams are working around the clock to expedite repairs and implement long-term solutions to prevent similar issues in the future.

In addition to these immediate measures, EPC is taking proactive steps to strengthen the power infrastructure. These steps include building an overhead redundancy line from Siusega to Fuluasou substation via Tuanaimato to replace the faulty underground line. This short-term solution aims to ensure a reliable alternative for power transmission while minimising disruptions.

To meet the growing demand for electricity, EPC is also in the process of procuring additional generators. These new generators will enhance the capacity to provide stable power during peak hours and reduce the likelihood of outages.

EPC remains committed to its long-term vision of sustainable energy and is advancing renewable energy projects, including solar, hydro, and wind power initiatives. These projects are part of the corporation’s strategy to diversify energy sources and build a more resilient and environmentally friendly power grid.

The corporation assured the public that regular updates on the progress of these initiatives would be provided through its official channels. Customers are encouraged to follow EPC’s social media pages for the latest information and to report any outages or concerns to the customer service team.

EPC extended its gratitude to the public for their understanding and support during this challenging period. The corporation reiterated its mission to serve the people of Samoa by ensuring access to dependable electricity and maintaining a high standard of service.

The Electric Power Corporation remains focused on resolving the current issues swiftly and building a more resilient power infrastructure to support Samoa’s future needs.
