The Ministry of Finance has announced new retail fuel prices for April 2025, with petrol, diesel, and kerosene all recording increases.

From 1–30 April 2025, the new retail prices inclusive of VAGST are as follows:

  • Petrol: SAT $3.09 per litre
  • Diesel: SAT $3.17 per litre
  • Kerosene: SAT $2.81 per litre

The adjustments reflect global trends based on February 2025 Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) marker prices. Petrol rose by 9.9 sene per litre, diesel by 7.5 sene, and kerosene by 11.0 sene.

Fuel price fluctuations have been ongoing since October 2024, driven by global economic uncertainty, especially concerns over U.S. trade policies. February saw a slowdown in these increases, but local freight and shipping costs rose by 13%, and the US dollar strengthened by 2% against the Tala, further impacting domestic pricing.

A regional comparison shows Samoa’s fuel prices remain competitive when measured in Samoan Tala (SAT).

In New Zealand, the retail price for petrol is SAT $4.63 and diesel SAT $3.51. Fiji reports prices of SAT $3.33 for petrol and SAT $3.10 for diesel. In Australia, prices sit at SAT $3.06 for petrol and SAT $3.25 for diesel.

The Ministry says prices are reviewed monthly and are influenced by international benchmarks, shipping costs, and foreign exchange movements.
