The Prime Minister of Samoa delivered remarks at a Bank South Pacific (BSP) customer event on 31 March 2025, held at the Taumeasina Island Resort in Apia. The function was attended by high-value customers and BSP representatives, including the bank’s Group General Manager Compliance, Vandhna Narayan, who was visiting Samoa for the first time.

The event was held to acknowledge BSP’s logo rebrand and to reaffirm the bank’s position in the country’s financial system. It features a stylised Kundu drum, introduced as part of BSP’s repositioning as a regional banking group focused on cultural connection and unity. In her speech, the Prime Minister acknowledged BSP’s 47-year role in Samoa’s financial sector; “has been at the heart of our nation’s financial landscape – serving individuals, businesses and communities.”

BSP is one of Samoa’s largest employers and continues to operate across the Pacific. The Prime Minister described banks as essential to a country’s economy, saying they are “not just financial institutions; they are the lifeblood of economic growth, driving investment, innovation and stability.

The speech addressed several initiatives supported by BSP, including investment in youth and education, and programs aimed at supporting women. She also referenced BSP’s stand against domestic violence and community-based initiatives that extend beyond traditional banking services.

The Samoan government values the partnership we share with the banking sector,” the Prime Minister said, adding that government continues to work with institutions like BSP to support financial access, capital, and investment.

Addressing the high-value customers in attendance, she said their success reflects both their own determination and the support provided by the bank.

The Prime Minister concluded her remarks by stating,

“As we celebrate Bank South Pacific’s rich history and look ahead to an even brighter future, let us reaffirm our shared commitment to build a Samoa that is stronger, more prosperous, and filled with opportunity for all.”
