The Samoa Ports Authority (SPA) continues to implement upgrades to its domestic ports at Mulifanua and Salelologa to improve convenience and accessibility for the travelling public between Upolu and Savai’i.
Since the transfer of domestic port management from the Samoa Shipping Corporation on 1 October 2022, the Authority has completed several upgrades and continues to develop additional facilities, including:
- New public restroom facilities at Mulifanua
- New security gate hut at Mulifanua
- New secured car parking areas at both Mulifanua and Salelologa
The developments at Mulifanua are nearing completion and will improve SPA’s services to the public. The security gate hut and boom gates at Mulifanua will help manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic, particularly after hours.
SPA confirms there is currently no fee for vehicle or pedestrian entry into the Mulifanua wharf.
A $10 per night fee has been introduced for the use of the new secured overnight parking spaces at both Mulifanua and Salelologa.
“The secured parking space we are charging is a new initiative for those who wish to park overnight. It is an optional service. Those who do not require overnight parking can continue to use the open space for free. While the wharf is closed in the evening, the secured parking area guarantees the safety of vehicles under the supervision of our security team,” said General Manager So’oalo Falelima Kuresa So’oalo.
Other ongoing improvements include upgrades to the vessel berthage area, maintenance of buoyage along the channel, and improvements to cleanliness and maintenance across the facilities.
These developments support the Authority’s vision of delivering green, safe, effective, and efficient port services.
