Yesterday’s graduation at the National University of Samoa was a proud moment for Utufaasilileutagatuisuga Iene and Amanda July Samu, who were capped side by side.
The two first met at Maluafou College, and their friendship grew stronger through university.
They graduated from Maluafou in 2020, entered the Papa i Galagala in 2021 where they earned their Foundation Certificates, and yesterday they received their Bachelor of Arts degrees in front of family and friends.
Amanda said she’s grateful for the support she received from her best friend.
“Utufaasili always supported me throughout our academic journey. There were times I felt like giving up, but she was always there for me, helping me stand on my feet. For that, I am grateful.”
Utufaasilileutagatuisuga responded, “The feeling is mutual. I also want to acknowledge the support system that we have — our families, our friends, and everyone who contributed to our success, including our classmates and teachers.”
Utufaasilileutagatuisuga is the daughter of Iene and Fuatai from Fagali’i. Amanda is the daughter of Paetau and July Samu from Eva.

“This milestone is not just a personal achievement,” said Utufaasilileutagatuisuga. “It’s a shared victory that reminds us of the power of friendship and the importance of community.”
