Prime Minister welcomes Swiss Ambassador and acknowledges strong bilateral ties

The Prime Minister of Samoa, Honourable Fiame Naomi Mataʻafa, delivered remarks at a reception held at Taumeasina Island Resort on Wednesday 9 April, hosted by the Ambassador of Switzerland, His Excellency Viktor Vavricker.

In her speech, the Prime Minister welcomed the Ambassador and his spouse and congratulated him on his recent accreditation as the Swiss Ambassador to Samoa. She affirmed Samoa’s commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship, which has been built on mutual respect and shared goals in sustainable development for over forty years.

The Prime Minister acknowledged Switzerland’s vital financial support in establishing Samoa’s Embassy and Permanent Mission in Geneva in 2022, enhancing Samoa’s engagement with multilateral agencies including the WTO, FAO, UNESCO, and the Human Rights Council.

She also recognised Switzerland’s investment in the Green Climate Fund and the Asian Development Bank, which has contributed to climate resilience and disaster preparedness in Samoa.

Special recognition was given to Mrs. Sylvie Salanoa, Swiss Honorary Consul to Samoa, for her ongoing service, particularly through the implementation of Switzerland’s small grant aid.

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing confidence in Ambassador Vavricker’s tenure and proposed a toast to the enduring friendship between Samoa and Switzerland.

“To the close and enduring relations between Samoa and Switzerland.”
