The Government’s national response to Samoa’s ongoing energy crisis has entered its third week, with new rental generators from Aggreko New Zealand now delivered and being installed at Fuluasou.
The EPC confirmed the arrival of the first shipment last week, followed by a second load that landed on Sunday, 13 April. Work is underway to install and commission all generators before the end of the month.
Power rationing continues across affected areas, with updated arrangements including the activation of standby feeders to support load distribution and prioritise essential services.
An Emergency Order has been issued under the Proclamation of Emergency. It allows temporary exemptions on import duties and taxes for approved energy-related equipment purchased between 17 February and 29 April, as long as the goods arrive in Samoa by 29 June. Applications must go to the Comptroller of Customs with proper documentation. Strict conditions apply and penalties will be enforced for misuse.
The Government is also running an official impact assessment. Residents and businesses in designated areas of Upolu are asked to complete the form by 25 April. It asks for details on damaged appliances, service disruptions, and financial losses, along with EPC meter numbers and supporting documents such as photos or receipts.
Public awareness efforts are being rolled out through media outlets to keep the country updated on power restoration and conservation advice. The campaign is led by NEOC with support from EPC, MWTI, MWCSD, and other agencies.
