The ongoing development for the overall benefit of the country is the core aim and hope of the Government through the $1 Million Project for each of the 51 Electoral Constituencies in Samoa.
The Government’s primary objective is to ensure developments are focused and beneficial to the people.
Today, representatives of the Electoral Constituencies of Lefaga and Faleāse’elā, Safata #1, Sagaga #2, ‘Ā’ana Alofi #1, and Fa’asaleleaga #2 signed agreements for the release of the first portion of their third $1 Million grant.
The Minister of Women, Community and Social Development officiated the signing for the release of these funds to the five constituencies.
Following the Government Auditor’s assessment reports on the proper use of the Second $1 Million [Financial Year 2023–2024] for the constituencies’ development projects, the evaluation of their Annual Development Plans and Budgets [FY 2024–2025], and the formal endorsement by the Special Committee for Constituency Development Projects at its meeting on 25 April 2025, the signing of agreements for the release of the Third $1 Million was approved.
This funding includes $160,000 [16%] allocated for the operational costs of the Electoral Constituency Offices and $540,000 to begin the planned development projects for these five constituencies.

In his keynote address, the Minister of Women, Community and Social Development, Laga’aia Ti’aitu’au Tufuga, reminded the constituency representatives present of the importance of honesty and adherence to policies and guidelines in the implementation of projects funded through these grants.
“The implementation of our Project is progressing well for the benefit of our people.
“Our Government relies on you, the Electoral Constituency Committees, and particularly the fathers and mothers of each constituency. We also rely on the leadership of the matai (chiefs) and orators, and the wider constituency communities, who have skills, abilities, and talents. This is also an opportunity to utilise the talents and capabilities of our young people residing and living within each constituency.
“The Government’s aim is to ensure that policies are properly followed, because we cannot continue to deviate from the programme; we must adhere to the policies.
“I also remind the Electoral Constituency Committees to submit their reports promptly so that the Special Development Committee can review them and promptly release the remaining portion of your Million grants.
“The overarching goal is to ensure there are sufficient funds for the operation of the Constituency Offices and the implementation of much-needed development projects to improve the wellbeing of our people.”
