The Ministry of Health has resumed its fumigation and residual spraying programme to combat the spread of dengue fever (Fiva o Ponaivi) in hotspot areas across Samoa.

Photos shared on the Ministry’s official Facebook page show health workers in full protective suits conducting fumigation around homes and communities. The team is targeting families already affected by the outbreak and households with vulnerable individuals, as well as locations flagged as high-risk.

The Ministry also issued a reminder for families affected by dengue to expect spraying at their homes. Fumigation is being carried out in both indoor and outdoor areas to reduce mosquito populations, which are responsible for transmitting the dengue virus.

This is part of the ongoing national response to the dengue outbreak, first reported in mid-April. Read our earlier report here, where health officials warned of rising cases and urged the public to clear stagnant water and avoid mosquito bites.

The Ministry continues to urge the public to cooperate with spraying teams and follow prevention advice.
