Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa officially opened the Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO) Annual General Meeting 2025 in Apia on Monday morning.
Held at the Samoa Tourism Authority Fale, the event welcomed representatives from across the Pacific, including cabinet ministers, diplomatic corps members, transport secretaries, directors of civil aviation, and PASO Council members.
In her address, Fiame said Samoa is proud to host this important regional gathering, demonstrating the Pacific’s shared commitment to safer skies and stronger connections.

She highlighted the importance of both safety and security in aviation, urging the region to consider evolving threats from cybercrime and transnational issues. Fiame suggested that PASO might even adopt a more inclusive name to reflect the equal importance of safety and security.
“Security and safety reinforce each other,” she said. “A secure aviation environment ensures our people can travel with confidence.”
Samoa reaffirmed its commitment to supporting PASO’s work, helping member countries meet international safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Fiame acknowledged the wide range of stakeholders, from technical experts and managers to political leaders, all working to maintain aviation safety and security across the Pacific.
In closing, she called for strengthened cooperation, shared innovation, and lasting commitment to building a Pacific where skies are safe, airlines and airports are secure, and communities remain connected.
The PASO AGM continues this week in Apia.
