Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa has launched a new political party named the Samoa Uniting Party (S.U.P.), fa’asamoaina Samoa ua Potopoto. This is the shift in her leadership ahead of the upcoming General Election scheduled for 29 August 2025.
The announcement was made Thursday morning at the Sheraton Hotel in Vaisigano, where Fiame stood with members of her Cabinet, including Faleomavaega Titimaea Tafua. The new party is being positioned as an alternative following her separation from the FAST Party, where she led the government from 2021 to 2025.
Speaking to supporters, Fiame said the new party is built on lawful leadership and service that benefits all, not a few.
“When leaders govern through the law, the people can trust their government,” she said. “That kind of trust is not something we should ever take lightly.”
She said Samoa Ua Potopoto will operate within legal boundaries and not be used for personal gain or political revenge.
“Leadership must move forward through legal and constitutional paths, not personal agendas.”
Fiame expressed concern over MPs who use God’s name in political debates.

“It is heartbreaking to see God’s name used in ways that do not reflect His will.”
Her speech also reflected on achievements during her time as Prime Minister, including an increase in GDP from $800 million in 2021 to more than $1.2 billion, reduction in public debt without new borrowing, support for small businesses, and growth in skilled temporary jobs.
The S.U.P. will release its full list of candidates soon, including current MPs and new contenders. Fiame said preparations for the election will continue lawfully and carefully.
The General Election will be held on 29 August 2025, as confirmed by the Supreme Court.
