The Samoa Government has approved another $6 million for its Housing Assistance Scheme after 97 families received support under the programme during the 2025/2026 financial year.
The new allocation, approved through the 2026/2027 Main Budget, will allow the Samoa Housing Corporation to continue providing concessional housing loans to families wanting to build or buy their first home, or renovate and extend an existing property.
The first $6 million allocation was fully distributed through 97 approved housing loans across Upolu and Savai‘i.
Of those, 54 families received assistance to build or purchase their first home, while 43 larger families were supported to renovate, improve or extend their homes.
The Government says the programme is aimed at making housing finance more accessible, particularly for families who may struggle to qualify under normal lending conditions.
Some of the successful applicants were new Samoa Housing Corporation customers who had previously been unable to obtain a loan but became eligible through the Government-supported scheme.
The programme also targets overcrowding, with larger families able to use the loans to extend or improve their existing homes.
Loans offered under the scheme carry an annual interest rate of 5 percent.
There are two lending categories. Personal Guarantee loans are available for amounts of up to $50,000, while loans secured against freehold land range from $50,001 to $250,000.
The Government says the housing programme forms part of its commitment to improve access to affordable housing and strengthen family wellbeing.
Parliament has now approved a further $6 million for the 2026/2027 financial year, with the Government indicating the scheme is expected to continue throughout its current five-year term.
The Samoa Housing Corporation will begin accepting new applications once the latest funding allocation has been formally released to the corporation.
No opening date for the new round of applications has yet been announced.
People interested in applying are being advised to monitor Samoa Housing Corporation announcements and its official website, or visit its offices in Apia and Salelologa, Savai‘i.
