Last week, the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) actively promoted mental health awareness and prevention of drug abuse within local communities. Community women were inspired to recognise the importance of addressing these social issues, as they play a significant role in preventing violence within families and villages throughout Samoa.
Supported and funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) Project, the Nofotane women of Magiagi came together to learn, discuss, and reflect on these pressing concerns. Around 30 Nofotane women participated, sharing valuable insights about the realities of family challenges and their practical knowledge of similar situations at the community level.

SVSG is dedicated to empowering women and raising awareness about the growing impact of drug-related issues, including family violence and child abuse in Samoa. This highlights the ongoing need for prevention and educational initiatives to build stronger, safer communities.
As part of the awareness program, participants explored various therapies and home remedies to help manage mental health stresses. The introduction of nutritious gardening was especially well received, as it not only supports mental and physical well-being but also provides healthy food for families and the broader community.

SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang sincerely expresses gratitude to CFLI for equipping local communities with essential knowledge, resources, and effective communication strategies to prevent these issues.
Through collaboration and a shared commitment, we are working together to create a safer, healthier, and more supportive Samoa, where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
