Samoa Participates in the Second Pacific Disaster Risk Management Ministerial and Managers Meetings in Koror, Palau, November 2025.
The Government of Samoa was represented by the Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Fesola‘i Faamanatu Molly Nielsen of the Disaster Management Office at the Second Pacific Disaster Risk Management Ministerial Meeting, held in Koror, Palau, from 4–5 November, 2025. The Ministerial Meeting brought together disaster management officials from across the Pacific region to strengthen political leadership, enhance regional coordination mechanisms, and accelerate the execution of commitments made at previous meetings. The Disaster Risk Management Manager’s Meeting was also held on 6–7 November, 2025 to discuss the implementation of commitments made by ministers. The meetings were facilitated and coordinated by the Pacific Community (SPC) and Pacific Islands Forums (PIFs).

In representing Samoa, the Assistant CEO, Nielsen reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to advancing the country’s disaster risk management agenda. Furthermore, joined the region in producing the Koror Declaration that provided key outcomes of the two-day meeting that highlighted the Pacific region’s elevation of DRM as a priority. The Koror Declaration include the endorsement of the Pacific Humanitarian Response Mechanism (PResCom), the implementation of the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility, addressed the strategic initiatives established in the 2025 Strategic Agenda for Disaster Risk Management, the ongoing implementation of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. It also endorsed the Troika arrangement for the Pacific Ministerial DRM Champion and noted the ongoing efforts to advance a Treaty on the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters, along with other key commitments and priorities.

“Through continued collaboration with our Pacific neighbors, regional organisations and development partners, we aim to ensure that our communities are better equipped to prepare, swift response, and recover from the impacts of disasters.”
Samoa’s participation in this important regional forum reaffirms the Government’s dedication to proactive and coordinated disaster risk management, ensuring that national and regional efforts continue to protect the safety, livelihoods, and well-being of Pacific peoples.
The Government extended its compliments to the Government of Palau for hosting the meeting and congratulations with the groundbreaking of the construction of its Warehouse under the Pacific Humanitarian Warehousing Program. The Government expressed appreciation for the financial and technical support provided by regional organizations of SPC, PIFs and UNDRR.
