The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG), in collaboration with the British High Commission, has launched the Nofoatane Business Start-Up Project to support women and girls in developing their own businesses and fostering stability within their families and communities.

The British High Commission has donated WST $25,000 to the SVSG Nofoatane Project to provide raw materials, basic tools, and other essential resources needed to start small businesses.

Launched today, December 9, at the British High Commission Office in Apia, the initiative was officially delivered by Deputy High Commissioner Cameron Garlick and received by members of SVSG, including one of the Nofoatane women who has benefited significantly from the project’s purpose and vision.

Mr. Garlick highlighted the significance of this partnership and acknowledged the kind support of His Majesty Queen Camilla, the patron of SVSG.

“This project aims to work with SVSG-Nofoatane to provide raw materials and resources that will empower parents to start their own businesses in their villages, giving them a means of supporting their families and communities,” he said.

“It not only contributes to eliminating gender-based violence, but also supports the economic development of villages,” he added.

Mr. Garlick further emphasized the importance of peace and security, not only for women and girls, but for the country as a whole—stating that it is essential in all aspects of daily life, both locally and globally.

Lefaoalii Unutoa Auelua-Fanooti, a member of the SVSG Board, expressed the organisation’s heartfelt appreciation for the continued support of the British High Commission.

“Thank you to the British High Commission and the people of Great Britain for this strong partnership and support for the SVSG-Nofoatane program. We sincerely appreciate the donation and resources you have provided, and we will ensure they are used wisely,” she said.

Moreover, a framed picture of Her Majesty with the SVSG team during her visit to the opening of the ‘Queen Camilla Preschool’ last year was also presented as a gift to the organization.

As the 16 Days of Activism conclude tomorrow, SVSG reaffirms its commitment to promoting equal opportunities and inclusivity for Nofoatane women in Samoa, while continuing its efforts to build safer and more peaceful communities.
