The Government of Samoa on Friday received 50 electricity generators donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, in a handover held at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) building in Tuanaimato.
The donation was formally acknowledged in keynote remarks by the Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, Honourable Ale Vena Ale, who said the generators would support standby power during emergencies and disasters and provide added stability for essential services.

He said the donation comes as Samoa works to manage rising electricity demand while pursuing a low-carbon transition, and follows the widespread power outages that disrupted daily life and business activity in early 2025, which led to an emergency proclamation.

According to information released by the Government of Samoa, the generators are rated at 15 kilowatts (kW) at 50 hertz (Hz).
In his remarks, Ale thanked China for the support and said the equipment would help maintain continuity of services during disruptions, including support for families and organisations that provide services to vulnerable households.
The ceremony included the presence of senior government representatives and diplomatic officials, including Fei Mingxing, as referenced in the minister’s acknowledgements.
