The Samoa Institute of Directors held a workshop at Lava Hotel on 18 March to strengthen understanding of compliance reporting duties among newly appointed and current board directors of public bodies.
The workshop brought together board directors, senior officials and regulatory experts to examine the legal responsibilities that apply to public bodies and the standards expected in governance and accountability.
The session was led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry for Public Enterprises, Tooala Elita, who spoke on the statutory duties and compliance requirements that guide boards in carrying out their roles.

Discussions focused on the obligations set out under the Public Bodies (Performance & Accountability) Act 2001 and the Companies Act 2001, including governance standards, transparency, accountability and policy implementation.
The workshop also looked at the legal and ethical responsibilities of board members, with participants discussing the importance of clear reporting, public trust and compliance with the policy frameworks that govern public bodies.

Attention was also given to monitoring and evaluating board performance as part of efforts to improve governance and maintain service delivery standards.
The workshop reflected the Ministry for Public Enterprises’ continued focus on strengthening governance across public bodies and ensuring they operate within the legal and policy framework established for their functions.

Organisers also thanked participants for their engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting a culture of compliance and good governance.
