Samoa’s firefighters and emergency responders have been recognised for their bravery, sacrifice and service as the country joined the global observance of International Firefighters’ Day.
Speaking at the Thanksgiving Service for the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molioo said the day was an opportunity to honour the men and women who serve on the frontlines to protect lives, property and the environment.
The service was held on 4 May, in line with International Firefighters’ Day. The programme document appears to state 04 Aperila 2026, but the speech itself refers to 4 May.
Mulipola said this year’s theme, “Leading Safety, Transforming Response,” reflected the changing role of Samoa’s emergency services.

She said firefighters and emergency responders were no longer only the people who arrived when a crisis occurred, but were also leaders in prevention, preparedness and community safety.
The Deputy Prime Minister also referred to the integration of the Emergency Medical Response Department, which was launched in 2025. She said the expansion showed the growth of the Authority and its improved ability to support citizens during vulnerable moments.
Mulipola said the year had tested the determination of SFESA, with major fire incidents across the country requiring strong coordination and courage.
“In every instance, you met the heat of the moment with professionalism and courage,” she said.
She also acknowledged the Board of Directors, management and staff of FESA for their service, saying their presence had provided reassurance to communities and upheld the integrity of the uniform.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the expansion of overseas training opportunities was important for Samoa’s emergency response capability. She said international training helped ensure Samoa was not only responding to present challenges, but preparing for future demands.
She also thanked international donor partners for supporting the professional development of Samoa’s firefighters and emergency responders.
“To our firefighters and emergency responders: Your service is the backbone of our national safety,” Mulipola said.
“As a nation, we stand firmly with you. We honour your sacrifices, we support your mission, and we thank you for your enduring commitment to protecting our home.”
The service ended with a message of thanks and prayer for God’s guidance and protection over those serving in Samoa’s fire and emergency services.
