NUS signs contract for Faculty of Health Science facilities project

The National University of Samoa has signed a contract with Konoike Construction Co. Ltd for the improvement of facilities at the Faculty of Health Science.

The contract was signed in Tokyo, Japan, on 22 May 2026, after the project received a no objection letter from the Japan International Cooperation Agency on the evaluation report for bid submissions.

The signing ceremony was held at Konoike’s Tokyo Head Office. NUS was represented by Vice-Chancellor and President, Afioga Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Amosa-Malua, Chief Operating Officer Leota Sarai Falepoulou Tevita, and Planning Manager Vaalupemaua Junior Uatisone.

Konoike was represented by Executive Officer and General Manager of the International Division, Takashi Endo, together with his team. Representatives from Yamashita Sekkei Co. Ltd, led by Kuroda Shingo, were also present.

During the visit, the NUS delegation also met with JICA at its headquarters in Tokyo to reconfirm cooperation between NUS, JICA, and the Government of Japan on the project.

The contract is now being submitted to the JICA office for verification under the project process.

NUS also acknowledged the consortium of Yamashita Sekkei Inc., Fukunaga Architects-Engineers, and Binko International Ltd for arranging and supporting the official trip.

The project is expected to support health education, research, and workforce development in Samoa through improved facilities for the Faculty of Health Science.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early August 2026.
