A new Mobile Clinic vehicle, funded by Japan under its Economic and Social Development Programme, was officially handed over to the Government of Samoa on Friday, 30 May 2025. The vehicle, valued at JPY58.4 million (approximately $1.1 million tala), was procured by the Japan International Cooperation System and includes transportation and training costs.

The Honourable Valasi Luapitofanua To’ogamaga Tafito Selesele, Minister of Health, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Government and people of Samoa during the handover ceremony. He acknowledged Japan’s longstanding partnership in Samoa’s development, which has provided technical expertise, financial support, and coordination across various sectors.

“This Mobile Clinic is crucial for improving healthcare services not only at the main hospital in Apia but especially at district hospitals where doctors and technical experts are stationed,” said Valasi.

“It will greatly enhance access to quality healthcare, preventive care, and public health resilience, especially in isolated and underserved communities.”

The Mobile Clinic is aligned with Samoa’s Pathway for the Development of Samoa FY2021/22–FY2025/26, focusing on strengthening the health sector and ensuring equitable healthcare for all.

Valasi extended thanks to His Excellency Ryotaro Suzuki, Ambassador Extraordinary of Japan to Samoa, and to the Government of Japan for their unwavering commitment to supporting Samoa’s national efforts in enhancing public health.
