The Embassy of France in Samoa celebrated French National Day on 14 July, bringing together Samoan leaders, diplomats, development partners and members of the French community.

French National Day, commonly known as Bastille Day, commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in Paris in 1789, an event regarded as the beginning of the French Revolution.

The day also celebrates the French Republic’s values of liberty, equality and fraternity.

Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molio’o joined Samoan ministers, dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, business representatives, development partners and members of Samoa’s French and French-speaking community.

The French Embassy said the celebration provided an opportunity to strengthen the friendship between Samoa and France, around 18 months after the embassy opened in Apia.
