Kensington Palace has confirmed that Jacinda Ardern, the former leader of New Zealand, has been appointed as a trustee of the Earthshot Prize, a prestigious environment award created by Prince William. Ardern’s experience and lifelong commitment to supporting sustainable and environmental solutions are expected to bring new thinking to the prize’s mission.
Prince William expressed his gratitude to Ardern, saying that her encouragement and advice had been crucial to the prize’s early success. The Earthshot Prize funds projects that aim to save the planet, and last year’s awards saw five prizes handed out to winners from different countries. Ardern attended the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York in September 2022, speaking on behalf of Prince William.
In addition to her appointment as a trustee, Ardern has also been appointed as the Special Envoy for the Christchurch Call, an initiative she co-founded in 2019 to combat extremism.
