In a shocking incident that unfolded in Alpena Township, Michigan, a 17-year-old suspect has been charged with the attempted kidnapping of an 8-year-old girl. Prompt action by the girl’s brave 13-year-old brother, who utilized a slingshot, prevented the abduction and led to the apprehension of the assailant.
According to Michigan State Police, the incident occurred when the young girl was innocently searching for mushrooms in her backyard. Suddenly, an unknown male emerged from the nearby woods, swiftly seizing the girl and covering her mouth in an attempt to silence her. However, demonstrating immense strength and courage, the victim managed to break free from the suspect’s clutches.
Fortunately, the girl’s vigilant brother witnessed the horrifying abduction attempt and immediately sprung into action. Armed with a slingshot, he skillfully aimed and struck the assailant in the head and chest, causing him to flee the scene in pain.
A family member who witnessed the suspect fleeing promptly alerted the authorities, providing a detailed description of the assailant. Michigan State Police initiated a search and eventually located the suspect hiding at a nearby gas station. Upon arrest, the suspect displayed visible wounds inflicted by the slingshot.
During subsequent questioning by detectives, the suspect reportedly confessed to planning a severe assault on the child. Consequently, the 17-year-old was booked into the Alpena County Jail and arraigned on charges including attempted kidnapping/child enticement, attempted assault to cause great bodily harm less than murder, and assault and battery.
Despite being a juvenile, the suspect is being charged as an adult. To ensure public safety, his identity has not been disclosed. A bond of $150,000 cash surety has been set, and the suspect is scheduled to appear in court on May 17 for a probable cause conference.
