Gatoloaifa’ana Tilianamua Afamasaga was among those honoured with the prestigious Companion Order of Samoa, the highest civilian honour in the country. This recognition symbolises her outstanding contributions to the government, her commitment to Samoan culture and customs, and her active involvement in local and international organisations. Her dedication and remarkable contribution to the government of Samoa span over 51 years. From her humble origins in the villages of Pu’apu’a, Lalomalava, and Sapapāli’i in Savai’i, Gatoloaifa’ana has tirelessly served her country in various essential roles, leaving an indelible mark on the field of education.
Throughout her illustrious career, Gatoloaifa’ana has held prominent positions, demonstrating her commitment to shaping the educational landscape of Samoa. Her history of service includes:
1984 to 1990: Deputy Principal at the Secondary Teachers College.
1991 to 1997: Deputy Principal at the Samoa Teachers College.
1997 to 2005: Head of the Education Department at the National University of Samoa.
2006 to 2012: Coordinator of Continuing Education Programs and External Relations at N.U.S.
Current: Commissioner in the Government’s Employment Commission.
