Representatives from 21 District Centers have finalised financial agreements to receive $160,000 each from the second phase of the Government’s $1 million District Development Project. This allocation aims to strengthen the operational capacities of these districts, marking a significant step forward in their journey towards progress and self-sustainability.
The signing ceremony took place at the Tooa Salamasina Hall of the Ministry of Women, Community, and Social Development. Minister of Women, Community, and Social Development, Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio’o, commended the districts that met the eligibility criteria, facilitating the allocation of these funds.
Among the districts set to benefit from this capital infusion are Palauli 2, Faasaleleaga 4, and Vaimauga 3, among others, showcasing a diverse array of locales. Minister Mulipola acknowledged the challenges encountered during the initial disbursement of $1 million, emphasising the lessons learned and their potential to strengthen the project’s trajectory.

Emphasising inclusivity and equitable distribution, the Minister reiterated the project’s aim to ensure widespread benefits for all constituents within each district. Furthermore, she outlined procedural requisites for the recipients of this funding, stressing the importance of timely submission of annual reports to the Ministry.
To facilitate targeted resource utilisation, the Minister advocated for one-on-one consultations between the steering committee and district center committees to identify priority areas for development.
Minister Mulipola also outlined a timeline for subsequent fund disbursement, contingent upon satisfactory submission of annual reports and acquittals. The release of the first tranche of $420,000 is scheduled for March, pending adherence to reporting protocols.

Minister of Finance, Lautimuia Afoa Uelese Vaai, attended the ceremony, affirming governmental support for grassroots initiatives. Minister Mulipola urged the leadership and staff of the District Centers to demonstrate patience and unity, emphasising the collective imperative of ensuring the project’s success.
