Former All Black player Lima Sopoaga expressed concerns about the coaching change in an article by Liam Napier in the NZ Herald, stating, “There’s a bit of a group chat between a few of us boys from the World Cup who are still playing. I’m sure we’ll get on there and decide what we do.”
“Mapusua was a massive reason why I decided to have a crack and go back. Seeing the treatment of him has left a sour taste in my mouth,’ Lima Sopoaga told Liam.
Additionally, he remarked, “It’s a shame because it feels like it’s one step forward, five steps back.”
However, Schwalger’s supporters argue that his experience and vision make him a strong candidate to lead the team forward.
Vincent Fepulea’i, CEO of the Samoa Rugby Union, has yet to comment on the coaching change.
