Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa has provided detailed information on the venues and schedule for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa, set for next month. Speaking at a press conference at TATTE on 3 September 2024, she outlined the key locations and events planned for the international gathering.

The conference venues will stretch from the Parliament Buildings at Tiafau, along the coastline through Apia, reaching Matautu port, where a cruise liner will dock to offer additional accommodation. The venues will extend to the Taumeasina Island Resort. “All the selected venues have been upgraded and refurbished,” Prime Minister Fiame assured.

The official opening of the conference is slated for the Tuanaimato Multipurpose Centre, where leaders from various nations will gather. The event’s program begins with the Pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Forum for National Human Rights Institutions on 18-19 October, hosted at Sheraton Aggies Hotel.

Several forums are scheduled to take place simultaneously on 21-22 October, including the Commonwealth Youth Forum at EFKS Youth Hall, the Commonwealth Women’s Forum at TATTE Convention Centre, and the Commonwealth People’s Forum at TANOA Hotel. The Commonwealth Business Forum will follow on 22-24 October at Sheraton Aggies Hotel.

The official conference opening will occur on 25 October at Tuanaimato Multipurpose Centre, with the Leaders’ Executive sessions at Parliament House. The Foreign Ministers meetings will take place on 25-26 October at Taumeasina Island Resort. The event will culminate in the Leaders Retreat on 26 October at Sheraton Resort Mulifanua.

Prime Minister Fiame also confirmed that 37 side events will be held at the Ministry of Justice Courts complex, with an additional 40 special events scheduled throughout CHOGM week. These activities, organized in collaboration with accredited Commonwealth organizations and local partners, will include the Samoa agricultural show, photographic exhibitions, and musical performances. Some of these events will be open to the public and hosted at various locations outside the formal conference venues.
