Samoa Customs has seized 90 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia from a passenger who arrived at Faleolo International Airport on a Fiji Airways flight earlier today, in a joint matter involving Samoa Police.

Customs said the passenger was stopped during routine border clearance and later identified as a 43-year-old male. He is a Samoan national, holds a New Zealand passport, and is currently living in Australia.

During standard screening and examination, Customs officers located six bottles containing marijuana. Officers also seized a cannabis grinder and rolling papers.

Customs said the items are considered prohibited goods and were seized under the Customs Act and the Narcotics Act. The agency said the seizure followed frontline screening and examination processes carried out at the airport.

In a statement issued with Police, Customs said it continues to use risk profiling, intelligence, and screening technologies at the border to detect prohibited goods and prevent illicit drugs from entering the country.

Customs also reminded travellers that the importation of illicit drugs and related items into Samoa is prohibited and carries penalties under the law. Travellers were urged to declare goods accurately and to familiarise themselves with Samoa’s import restrictions before travelling.

The passenger is now in Police custody while investigations continue.
