His Excellency Dr Faisal Aziz Ahmed presented his Letter of Credence to the Head of State of Samoa, Afioga Tuimalealiifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II, at a presentation of credentials ceremony held this morning at the Head of State’s official residence in Vailele, accrediting His Excellency as the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Samoa.
Samoa and Pakistan have enjoyed cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 7 March 1983. In his remarks, His Excellency noted that Samoa and Pakistan share convergent interests underpinned by climate resilience and the principles of international law. His Excellency also conveyed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation, led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Samoa in October 2024. His Excellency reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Samoa in the areas of capacity building, resilient development, climate adaptation and mitigation, tourism, information technology and artificial intelligence.
In his responding remarks, the Head of State, Afioga Tuimalealiifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II, stated that Samoa and Pakistan share cordial relations premised on mutual respect and shared commitments to sustainable development and addressing climate change. He also expressed sincere appreciation for Pakistan’s funding assistance towards the installation of computer equipment for the establishment of a computer lab for Fagalii Primary School. The Head of State also acknowledged the growing Pakistani community residing in Samoa, which continues to strengthen people-to-people links. Afioga Tuimalealiifano affirmed that High Commissioner Ahmed’s tenure as High Commissioner to Samoa will further strengthen Samoa–Pakistan diplomatic relations.
His Excellency Dr Faisal Aziz Ahmed currently serves as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, with accreditation to Samoa, Kiribati and Tonga. He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 2002 and has held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan including Assistant Director, Deputy Director, Director General Strategic Planning and Director, Strategic Communication Division. He served as the Deputy Head of Mission at Pakistan’s Embassy in the United Arab Emirates from 2014 to 2018 and as the Deputy High Commissioner at its Mission in the United Kingdom from 2021 to 2024. His Excellency Ahmed holds an MBBS degree.
