Samoa participated in the 38th FAO Asia and Pacific Regional Conference (APRC), which was held in Brunei Darussalam from 20–24 April 2026. Representing Samoa at this important regional forum were the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Fuimaono Maiava Tito Asafo, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Afamasaga Taimaleiane Matatumua.

The conference commenced with the Senior Officials Meeting from 20–22 April, followed by the Ministerial Meeting from 23–24 April. The APRC brought together ministers and senior officials from across the Asia-Pacific region to deliberate on key challenges and opportunities in agriculture, fisheries, and food systems.

Throughout the conference, Samoa actively contributed to discussions on food systems transformation, climate-resilient agriculture, and sustainable fisheries management. The Honourable Minister highlighted Samoa’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local food production, improve nutrition outcomes, and support rural livelihoods, in alignment with national development priorities.

Samoa’s delegation also engaged in bilateral discussions with regional counterparts to explore opportunities for technical cooperation and knowledge sharing. These engagements were expected to further support the implementation of Samoa’s agriculture and fisheries sector plans.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with regional and international partners to build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agriculture and fisheries sector for Samoa.
