Qantas Airways has officially launched its inaugural service between Auckland and Faleolo, marking an important milestone for air travel to Samoa.

The first flight, QF145, arrived from Auckland carrying approximately 145 passengers.

The return service, QF144, departed Faleolo this morning with 95 passengers on board. The aircraft arrived at Faleolo International Airport at 11.42 p.m. on 16 June and departed at 6.51 a.m. on 17 June.

The service was operated using a Boeing 737-800.

For many years, Air New Zealand was the only airline serving the Auckland–Apia route. Travellers now have three airline options when booking flights between Samoa and Auckland: Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways and Qantas.

The Qantas flight arrived at approximately the same time as a Fiji Airways service. Despite a brief shower of rain, airport operations ran smoothly and all aerobridges functioned efficiently.

“The introduction of additional airline services provides greater travel choices for Samoan residents and international visitors alike,” the Samoa Airport Authority said.

“Looking ahead, the operation of our own aircraft will further expand travel options, improve connectivity, and support the growth of tourism and economic development in Samoa.”

This is a press release from the Samoa Airport Authority.
