The Government has clarified that no official hire rates have been approved for the use of the traditional Samoan fales or any other part of Malaefatu Park for private events.
In a statement released through the Government Press Secretariat, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation said the park remains open to the public for recreational use during its normal operating hours.
The Ministry said the construction of the Samoan fales forms part of the vision of the Independence Committee 2026, chaired by Prime Minister La‘aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt.
The fales are intended to provide spaces where families can gather, enjoy recreational activities and contribute to the character and atmosphere of Malaefatu Park.
People planning activities outside the park’s normal public recreational use are encouraged to contact the Ministry directly to discuss their requirements.
This includes individuals, families, community groups, churches, schools, businesses and other organisations considering holding events at the park.
The Ministry said each enquiry would be assessed according to its circumstances, with appropriate information and guidance provided to applicants.
Members of the public have also been encouraged to rely on official Ministry communications for accurate and updated information about the use of Malaefatu Park and any future booking arrangements.
The Ministry thanked the public for its continued support and cooperation.
