Two new facilities aimed at strengthening Samoa’s border security, policing capability and emergency preparedness have officially opened with support from the Samoa–Australia Police Partnership.
Representatives from the Government of Samoa, Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services and the Australian High Commission attended the opening ceremonies.
At Faleolo, a refurbished Airport and K9 Office will support efforts to detect illicit drugs and combat transnational crime at Samoa’s border. The facility will provide an improved operational base for police officers and specialist detector-dog teams working at the country’s main international airport.
An expanded Assets and Information and Communications Technology Warehouse was also opened at Faleata.
The warehouse is expected to improve the Samoa Police’s ability to manage essential equipment, strengthen communications systems and respond more effectively during emergencies and other major incidents.
The Australian High Commission said the developments build on more than 15 years of cooperation between Samoa and Australia in support of safer communities, stronger institutions and effective law enforcement across the Pacific.
Australia said it would continue working alongside Samoa to address changing security challenges, including transnational crime and cyber threats, while helping build a more secure and resilient Pacific region.
“Tasi le aiga, e tutu malosi fa’atasi,” the High Commission said, reflecting the partnership between the two countries.
