The United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women has conducted a monitoring visit to Samoa to observe the Samoa Victim Support Group’s work with women, children and survivors of gender-based violence.
Asia and the Pacific Portfolio Manager Fiona Dalmier visited Samoa on 3 and 4 August, meeting the SVSG project team, government partners, community representatives and people who have accessed the organisation’s services.
Dalmier met SVSG’s project team, led by board chairperson Maposua Tanya Toailoa, and representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration and the Ministry of Police and Prisons.
The meetings covered the progress of the UN Trust Fund-supported project, cooperation between the organisations involved and efforts to ensure support reaches survivors and vulnerable families.
Dalmier also attended a community workshop in the Anoamaa 2 constituency, where she observed SVSG’s work with local families and villages. The workshop demonstrated how information and support services are being taken directly into communities.

During the visit, she met beneficiaries who spoke about their experiences and the assistance they had received from SVSG.
Maposua said the visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate how the partnership was supporting vulnerable women, children and families.
“The establishment of Samoa’s first Community Law Centre is a significant milestone in ensuring survivors have access to free legal services and justice,” she said.
Maposua also thanked the Anoamaa 2 Fono Faavae committee and the villages of Luatuanuu and Leusoalii for hosting a traditional ava ceremony and supporting community efforts to protect families and respond to violence.
SVSG said its partnership with the UN Trust Fund was helping improve access to services, strengthen community responses and support safer families throughout Samoa.
