Samoa’s retail fuel prices have increased for October, with diesel recording the largest rise, according to the Government’s latest fuel price announcement.

The new maximum retail prices took effect from 1 October 2026.

Petrol increased by 3.5 sene per litre, from $3.54 to $3.58, while diesel rose by 22.6 sene, from $4.22 to $4.44 per litre. Kerosene increased by 12.5 sene, from $3.78 to $3.90 per litre.

According to the Samoa Government’s fuel price statement, the October prices are based on petroleum cargo loaded in August and delivered to Samoa during September.

The statement attributed continued pressure on crude oil and refined petroleum prices to disruptions affecting major international shipping and oil supply routes, including tensions involving Iran and the United States and developments around the Red Sea.

It said concerns have also increased over security in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the major shipping routes connecting the Red Sea with international markets.

Samoans living in New Zealand have also experienced sharp fuel price increases since the beginning of September. The national average for 91 petrol rose from about NZ$3.01 per litre on 1 September to NZ$3.40 by 24 September, an increase of around 39 cents in just over three weeks.
