Samoa’s Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka continues to attract strong international interest, drawing over 74,000 visitors during April and more than 29,000 during Japan’s Golden Week alone.
Located in the Commons A Building, the Pavilion offered visitors a vibrant and immersive display of Samoan culture, traditions, and hospitality. The month of April saw a total footfall of 404,000 to the Commons A Building, with Samoa’s Pavilion receiving nearly one-fifth of those visitors.
Cultural demonstrations, interactive language exchanges, and traditional handicrafts—such as the Samoan ili (fan)—were among the popular experiences. Visitors tried on Eveni apparel, posed with Pavilion staff in traditional attire, and engaged in learning basic Samoan greetings. The Pavilion also distributed bookmarks and calendars to children who participated in the language sessions.
Golden Week, which ran from April 29 to May 5, added another wave of visitors including families, students, and international tourists. Many came curious about Samoa’s geography, travel options from Japan, and traditional practices such as the significance of the tanoa.
Throughout the period, Pavilion staff made efforts to communicate in Japanese, fostering a deeper connection with guests and enhancing the spirit of cultural exchange. Flyers were also distributed during Golden Week promoting Samoa’s upcoming National Week in June, culminating in Samoa’s National Day celebration on 8 June.
The Samoa Tourism Authority’s dance group from Apia is scheduled to perform during the June celebrations, with a formal flag-raising and official ceremony planned to mark the occasion.
The Samoa Pavilion remains open to visitors for the duration of the Expo, providing a continuous invitation to explore the heart of Polynesia.
