MNRE Hosts Successful 2025 Climate Action Day in Lotofaga – 21 May 2025
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) successfully hosted the 2025 National Climate Action Day on 21st May in the district of Lotofaga, guided by the theme:
“Rooted in Brilliance, Thrive with Resilience – Fa’amaua’a i le Tōfā Mamao Fa’atinoga, ia Mausalī i le Lumana’i Manuia.”
This meaningful event launched in Lotofaga celebrates community-led action and resilience in the face of climate change—part of the Ministry’s SAMOA CARES campaign.
The day began with a Pre-Learning Session, where MNRE divisions ran hands-on demonstrations to help students of all ages engage with climate concepts and better understand how Samoa can build resilience through education.
The official program opened with a prayer service, followed by a welcome from MNRE’s Acting CEO, Moafanua Tolusina Pouli. The keynote address was delivered by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Hon. Toeolesulusulu Cedric Pose Salesa Schuster, who praised Lotofaga’s leadership and reaffirmed MNRE’s support for grassroots climate action. Tupuola Olialii Tuala Koki, Lotofaga’s district representative, also acknowledged the value of collaboration between government and local communities.
A key moment was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MNRE and Lotofaga District—an agreement aimed at strengthening sustainable resource management and local climate resilience.
The event closed with a prize-giving ceremony that celebrated the creativity and environmental efforts of participating villages.
MNRE thanks the Lotofaga District for their hospitality and partnership, and acknowledges GEF and UNDP, through the Third National Communications project, for their support toward Samoa’s climate resilience goals.
