Japanese Butoh Artist to perform in Samoa

The National University of Samoa’s Faculty of Education in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Samoa is proud to announce a rare and exciting cultural exchange, welcoming world-renowned Japanese performing artist Ichihara Akihito to Samoa for a special Butoh workshop and performance.

The workshop began on Wednesday 13th August and will culminate in an exclusive live performance on Saturday 16th August at NUS Fale, showcasing the depth and beauty of Butoh, a powerful and evocative Japanese avant-grade dance form.

Samoa will mark the 48th country in which Ichihara Akihito has performed during his distinguished international career.

The Saturday performance will be attended by the Ambassador of Japan to Samoa His Excellency Susuki Raiyatori, members of the diplomatic corps, CEOs, the National University of Samoa council, distinguished academic and professorial staff, and local Samoan artists.

Ichihara Akihito in internationally celebrated for his unique ability to blend traditional and contemporary Japanese performance styles. His presence in Samoa strengthens cultural connections and provided inspiration for local artists to explore new creative expressions.
