Ten of Samoa’s most distinguished legal figures have been honoured for decades of service, leadership and contribution to the nation’s legal profession as part of the Samoa Law Society’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The recipients were presented with the Golden Jubilee Lifetime Achievement Award at the Samoa Law Society’s Gala Ball, marking a major milestone in the Society’s 50-year history.
The awards recognise lawyers whose careers have extended well beyond professional achievement, reflecting a sustained commitment to the rule of law, the development of justice in Samoa and service to the wider community.
Each recipient has contributed more than 25 years to Samoa and demonstrated distinguished leadership, professional excellence and a commitment to strengthening the legal profession and the communities it serves.

The late Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu, who was honoured posthumously.
Samoa Law Society President Fiona Ey said the Golden Jubilee provided an important opportunity to acknowledge lawyers whose work has left a lasting mark on Samoa.
“The Samoa Law Society is proud to recognise exceptional contributions from our members to Samoa’s legal profession.”
She said the Society’s Golden Jubilee theme, “Honouring our Heritage, Shaping Tomorrow,” made the occasion especially appropriate for recognising the awardees and the impact they have made throughout their careers.
The awards were assessed against a range of criteria, including professional excellence and integrity, contributions to the development of law and justice, leadership and service through the Samoa Law Society, as well as community service and wider public impact.
Chair of the Golden Jubilee Organising Committee Peseta Salma Hazelman said the recipients had helped shape the way law is understood and experienced in Samoa.
“Each recipient has in their own way changed what the law in Samoa looks like; in the courts, in government, or in the community.”
She noted that, with the exception of the late Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu, the award recipients continue to contribute to the profession and the wider community.
Established in 1976, the Samoa Law Society is the professional body representing lawyers in Samoa. Its Golden Jubilee celebrations provide an opportunity not only to reflect on five decades of the Society’s history, but also to recognise the individuals whose careers have helped shape Samoa’s legal landscape.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards therefore stand as a celebration of both legacy and the future, honouring a generation of lawyers whose service has strengthened Samoa’s legal profession while inspiring the profession that follows.
