The village of Malie welcomed 46 new holders of the six orator titles, and one chiefly title, during a colorful and elaborate ceremony on Easter weekend.

These titles belong to the Sa Taito family, and the conferment was conducted at the family’s honored place at Vailoa, Malie.

Twelve descendants were given the Chiefly title of Faamausili, the Orator title of Auimatagi was bestowed upon 21 heirs of the family, 3 people received the Orator title of Leului, 1 person was given the Orator title of Saitaua, Tafuaupolu, which is another Orator title, was given to three descendants, 5 family members received the Faleupolu Orator title, and one person was blessed with the Tuuaipea Orator title.

Reverend Alapati Ah Kuoi led the ceremony to bless the new titleholders on Friday.

During his speech, he told them (new leaders) that being a matai means they have been chosen for servanthood.

“You have been called to lead your families, villages, and church through your service.

Remember, you are here to serve, not to be served,” said Reverend Alapati.

The Sa Taito family has grown, and each family needs someone to look after their properties, set good examples, and contribute to the development of the village through their humble tautua.

Humility influences the service from the heart, and every matai is expected to reflect this value in their leadership.

Taito Ueta is currently the Sole Head (Matai Sa’o) of the Sa Taito family who selected the new holders of the matai titles.
