The volleyball team from the village of Fagali’i accepted the invitation to travel to American Samoa, in order to participate in the Tutuila & Manu’a Flag Day Celebration volleyball tournament.
Since the first day of the tournament, the dominance of the team was exceptionally notable.
The Fagali’i team was placed in Pool D of the games for the men’s division in American Samoa, where they outplayed volleyball teams including Fagaloa (American Samoa), Laulii Skipper (American Samoa), Fiafia (American Samoa), Fiafia (Utah), Alo Samoa (American Samoa), and Laumua o Tumua (Upolu).
They advanced to the Quarterfinals and won against the team Emerald (USA).
Their hard work enabled them to reach the Semi Finals, where they defeated the 4-Kona team from American Samoa.
It was not easy for the Fagali’i team to reach the championship, as they had to play against Lona Youth, a good team they travelled with from Upolu.
Fagali’i won the first set, but Lona Youth won the 2nd set, leading to the final deciding set for the champion, resulting in Fagali’i’s victory winning the championship trophy.
The tournament’s best player was awarded to their captain, Vaoita Togafau, who also played as a setter.
The team leader, coach, captain, and the whole team did not overlook the support from their families and friends not only from Samoa, American Samoa, and around the world, which was expressed through prayers and messages on social media.
They conveyed their thanks for the support through their Facebook profile pages.
