Faleolo International Airport’s new Regional Terminal and Apron were officially opened on Thursday, 17th October 2024, in a ceremony attended by government officials, stakeholders, and members of the community. The WS$25 million project is expected to enhance Samoa’s connectivity within the Pacific region and provide a boost to tourism and local employment.

In her keynote address, Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa mentioned the importance of the new terminal in positioning Samoa as a regional hub.

“This terminal will accommodate flights from Tonga, Fiji, Tuvalu, Niue, and the Cook Islands, as well as inter-island services,” she said.

“It strengthens connections within the Pacific and beyond, opening new opportunities for our country.”

The terminal, which was completed last month, is equipped to handle growing numbers of tourists and increased aircraft parking capacity. It is expected to play a role in Samoa’s preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next month, with the terminal set to receive international delegates.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the collaboration between government agencies, private sector partners, and the local workforce in bringing the project to completion.

“We thank the construction teams and management for their dedication and hard work,” Fiame stated.

The new terminal is part of Samoa’s broader effort to drive socio-economic development by enhancing infrastructure and creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people entering the aviation and tourism industries.

The opening marks a key development for Samoa’s future as it continues to grow its role in regional travel and trade.
