Talofa Airways has officially commenced operations at Samoa’s newly opened Regional Airport Terminal, completing eight flights to American Samoa on its first day. The terminal, which now serves smaller aircraft, was built to alleviate congestion at the Main Terminal of Faleolo International Airport.
According to MWTI & SAA, the new facility is equipped with check-in counters, customs, and immigration services. Its purpose is to improve efficiency and safety by separating smaller aircraft operations from the larger planes handled at the Main Terminal. SAA stated in a PR that this arrangement is expected to reduce delays and enhance the flow of air traffic.
“This development reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to improve Samoa’s aviation infrastructure and support economic growth through enhanced regional connectivity,” stated a Samoa Airport Authority source.
The terminal’s design incorporates modern technology aimed at ensuring smooth processing of passengers and preparing Samoa’s aviation sector for future growth. With increased capacity and streamlined operations, the facility is positioned to support the country’s growing role in Pacific travel.
The newly opened regional terminal is positioned on the western side of Faleolo International Airport, as shown in the accompanying map. The terminal connects directly to the main road leading to the wharf and features an expanded apron area, visible in the images from the opening ceremony below.
It is designed to accommodate about six small aircraft, such as Twin Otters, and one Boeing 737 simultaneously. The exact number of gates is yet to be finalised, but the terminal is tailored for efficient operations for smaller regional flights while providing adequate capacity for larger aircraft, according to a source.
The successful launch of Talofa Airways at the terminal demonstrates its readiness to serve as a key connection between Samoa and neighbouring islands. The operation of the new terminal shows Samoa’s commitment to strengthening its role in the regional aviation industry and providing improved travel experiences for passengers.
The Ministry confirmed that ongoing enhancements at Faleolo International Airport are part of broader efforts to improve the country’s transportation infrastructure and increase its accessibility on the global stage.
