In the wake of a recent tragic accident at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport, where a woman lost her leg after being trapped under a malfunctioning moving walkway, the airport has swiftly responded by implementing comprehensive safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Don Mueang Airport is determined to prioritise passenger safety and restore confidence in its facilities.

Following an intensive investigation into the incident, airport authorities have taken decisive action to address potential risks and enhance safety protocols throughout the terminal. The focus is on ensuring that all walkways operate flawlessly and without any hazards to passengers.

To begin with, the airport management has collaborated with renowned experts in the field of engineering and walkway safety to conduct a thorough assessment of all existing walkways. This includes rigorous inspections of mechanical components, structural integrity, and safety features. Any necessary repairs or upgrades will be carried out promptly, ensuring that all walkways are in optimal condition.

Furthermore, Don Mueang Airport has implemented a robust maintenance program that includes daily inspections of all walkways. This proactive approach aims to identify and resolve any potential issues before they pose a risk to passengers. Additionally, monthly inspections will be conducted to provide an extra layer of scrutiny and ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of the walkways.

To stay at the forefront of technological advancements, the airport authorities have also unveiled plans to replace the current walkway models with state-of-the-art designs. By 2025, Don Mueang Airport aims to install advanced moving walkways that incorporate cutting-edge safety features, surpassing international standards.

Airport director Karun Thanakuljeerapat stated, “The safety and well-being of our passengers are our utmost priority. We deeply regret the incident that occurred, and we are taking comprehensive steps to prevent such occurrences in the future. Our commitment to passenger safety extends beyond repairs and inspections, as we are dedicated to providing a secure and pleasant travel experience for all.”

The airport has also extended its support and care to the victim of the recent accident. Don Mueang Airport will cover all of her medical expenses and is engaging in discussions to ensure she receives appropriate compensation for the unfortunate incident.
