In ensuring the safety, security, and smooth travel of all Delegates attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), as well as the staff providing assistance, and especially for those living and commuting in this part of Upolu, a plan has been set for scheduled times where certain parts of the main road in Apia, referred to as the Samoa CHOGM 2024 Peninsula, will be temporarily closed.

The main objective is to maintain peaceful and orderly travel for Delegates at the CHOGM Peninsula during the meeting, without any disruptions or roadblocks.

Starting this week, from October 14 to 28 October 2024, the bus stop in Savalalo will be temporarily closed, and passengers will need to use the bus stop in Fugalei for public transport.

The temporary closure schedule for the main road in the designated CHOGM Peninsula on Thursday, 24 October 2024, Friday, 25 October 2024, and Saturday, 26 October 2024, is intended to ease movement for the Delegates as they travel between venues and hotels, as outlined in the CHOGM special program.

The CHOGM Peninsula stretches from Taumeasina Hotel in Moata’a, passing through the roundabout in Vaisigano, including Matautu, and continues along Apia’s coastline, reaching the National University of Samoa Marine Campus in Mulinu’u.

To assist public understanding, the area has been divided into Zones:

  • Zone A: From Taumeasina Hotel towards the crossroads at Matautu.
  • Zone B: From the crossroads at Matautu towards the roundabout at Vaisigano.
  • Zone C: From the roundabout at Vaisigano towards the Ministry of Police, Prisons, and Corrections headquarters on Ifiifi Street.
  • Zone D: From the Ministry of Police, Prisons, and Corrections headquarters on Ifiifi Street to the crossroads near ANZ Bank and Samoa Post Office.
  • Zone E: From the crossroads near ANZ Bank and Samoa Post Office towards the Apia coastline where the Asco Motors office is located.
  • Zone F: From the Asco Motors crossroads towards the National University of Samoa Marine Campus in Mulinu’u.

During the scheduled road closures, only vehicles with permits will be allowed to enter or exit the closed areas. Households, businesses, and organizations with vehicles that have approved permits will be granted access.
